The Alexander City Council voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve two rezonings, renew a lease with John Deere for golf-course equipment and authorize the mayor to enter an access-management agreement on Highway 280 with the State of Alabama. Council also removed a petition from the Tallapoosa County Commission from the agenda.
The council approved an ordinance to rezone 256 South Central Avenue from R-3 (high-density residential) to B-2 (general business). The mayor sponsored the item; the council first voted to bring the ordinance to the table and then approved the measure. The motion to advance and the final vote passed 6-0.
Council then approved an ordinance to rezone 2335 Dabel/David Road from light-industrial zoning to R-1 (low-density residential). A council member said the property purchasers plan to build a home on the site and that the city already owns utility infrastructure serving the parcel. The rezoning motion carried 6-0.
The council authorized the mayor to renew a lease agreement with John Deere for golf-course equipment. City staff said the lease process began during the June budget meetings, that the expense is included in the FY2026 budget and that the line is currently under budget. A council member said the arrangement can be revisited in the future; the motion to approve the lease renewal passed 6-0.
On a separate item, the council approved Resolution 2025-93 authorizing the mayor to enter an agreement with the State of Alabama for access management on the Highway 280 project; the docket included reference numbers provided during discussion. That resolution passed 6-0.
Earlier in the meeting the council voted to remove agenda Item 3, a petition from the Tallapoosa County Commission, and tabled further action on that petition. That motion also passed unanimously.
All formal votes recorded on the evening’s agenda were unanimous (6-0). No public speakers signed up for the two rezoning public hearings, which the council opened and then closed before voting.
