A stakeholder recommended the commission tie walk‑audit findings to bike and sidewalk recommendations and to help draft a local Complete Streets resolution for Carbondale.
Nikki, speaking near the start of the meeting, said the Age‑Friendly coalition had produced walk‑audit reports for every priority corridor and asked that the commission "tie those two together" so that any street improvements consider sidewalks and pedestrian needs at the same time as bike recommendations. She asked the commission to participate in a small working group — suggested members included Planning & Zoning, Bike/Ped & Trails, and Age‑Friendly representatives — to draft an initial resolution and a legislative packet for the trustees to consider.
Nikki told commissioners that AARP’s Public Policy Institute has offered free consultation and that other Complete Streets guidance packages are available as templates. Commissioners agreed to explore forming a working group early next year and said they would coordinate with town staff, trustees and Planning & Zoning as appropriate so the proposal does not run counter to town priorities or staffing capacity.
Nikki also noted the commission’s December retreat would be a logical time for the commission and partners to decide 2026 priorities and to avoid leaving earlier commitments uncompleted.
