Jason Schultz, Lincoln County Highway superintendent, updated the board on road projects and vehicle procurement.
Schultz said the contractor expects to begin work on the suburban road portion of a county paving contract next week (tentatively Nov. 10) and will then move to the North River Road portion to complete the contract. He recommended that county staff perform temperature checks on each asphalt delivery: "I would just as a recommendation, I would make sure that you've got your probe that you can stick that in there and check each load that comes out," Schultz said, noting that material temperature affects compaction and finished quality.
On equipment, Schultz said the county is working on procuring a snow-plow truck and may use cooperative purchasing or a state bid to find a vehicle that meets the county's specifications. "We're looking at that and what's available out there," he said. Commissioners and staff discussed transmission types; Schultz said most current plow-truck options are automatic.
No formal procurement action was taken; Schultz said staff will return with procurement details and a recommended purchasing route.
Provenance: Superintendent's update began at the department report segment and concluded with questions about procurement and specifications.
