Athens City Council voted to approve the appointment of Ijeoma Idika Chima to the Athens Community Relations Commission.
The council liaison, speaking in favor of the appointment, said Ijeoma Idika Chima is a Ph.D. student at Ohio University with a master’s degree in social work, graduate certificates in development practice and global health, and experience with the university’s School of Leadership and Public Service. The council moved and seconded the appointment; the presiding officer called for a voice vote and recorded that the ayes carried the motion.
Council also announced a public hearing set for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, in council chambers on the third floor of the city building. The hearing will consider Planning Commission Case No. 25-06, a proposed rezoning for properties along North Lancaster Street, Second Street, Columbia Avenue and Columbus Road. Staff said the full text of the recommendation and a map are available by contacting Clark Walker at the city clerk’s office. The announcement noted the notice was published in the paper of general circulation on Oct. 11, and the Nov. 17 date meets the 30-day waiting period required before the council may act.
The council closed with opportunities for citizens and a motion to adjourn; the meeting ended at 8:54 p.m.
