The Wynwood Design Review Committee on Nov. 4 approved an application to replace a pole sign with a monument sign at the Marathon gas station at 127 Northwest 20th Street in the Wynwood Industrial District.
Javier Soler, who said he represents the site owner, told the committee the proposal replaces the existing pole sign with an 8-foot-by-8-foot monument sign, totaling 64 square feet, with a 37-square-foot blue area for fuel prices. "We are simply proposing to replace the existing poll signs with a slightly smaller monument sign, which is what the City Of Miami now requires for all businesses that have a monument sign," Soler said. He added the sign is not lighted except for the pricing panel, which he said is required by state law.
A committee member recused themself from the review because they own adjacent property; Vice Chair Alan Kett led the review and vote in that member's place. Staff had framed the item under the City of Miami zoning code sign standards and Wynwood signage guidelines.
A committee member moved for approval and the committee approved the application by voice vote. The transcript records no roll-call tally or names tied to individual votes.
The application materials included aerial and street images and a comparison to similar gas-station signs outside the NRD-1 boundary; the applicant said similar monument signs were difficult to find inside the Wynwood NRD-1 area. The committee did not record additional conditions in the meeting record shown in the transcript.
The committee will proceed with the permitting process consistent with the City's sign standards and Wynwood signage guidelines.
