Felicia Trainer, assistant director of Parks and Recreation, and other staff reviewed upcoming meeting dates, special-events results, program enrollment and capital projects.
Trainer presented a proposed 2026 advisory board schedule and asked board members to note possible date changes in September. Adele Trezino, special events coordinator, said Splash Bash attendance rose from about 3,000 to 3,500 and Parkland Dash participation increased but fell short of the 20% growth target; sponsorships have grown, she said. Trezino reported the pumpkin patch expanded to roughly 7,000 visitors and the farmers market has a wait list of about 30 crafters; staff explained the market layout is at capacity for safety and parking reasons.
Karina Keane, recreation coordinator, outlined fall classes, teen programs and a series of expanded senior activities, including trips, a Matter of Balance class series and technology help for seniors to register for programs online.
Christine Garcia, senior director, updated the board on Wedge Preserve Park construction: ponds are formed, community center walls are up and maintenance-yard footers are in place. She said substantial completion is still slated for November 2026 and described off-site road and turn-lane improvements tied to the project.
Staff also reviewed playground and facility projects: equipment for Coverbridge playground is on-site and installation is imminent; Tamar Park parking permitting and playground bids are in process; Pine Trails Court lighting and bleacher planning continues; Liberty Park splash pad and pavilion roof replacement designs are in development. Pine Trails Park received new l-screens on fields A'D.
Board members asked whether the market layout could be changed to add vendors; staff said the current layout maximizes vendor capacity while preserving pedestrian safety and parking. Staff noted they will consider rotating specialty vendors to keep the market fresh.
