The City of Madison submitted its 2026 CCMG application last week, city streets staff told the Board of Public Works and Safety on Nov. 3.
Chris Hale, superintendent of streets, listed the candidate streets included in the application: Craigmont (Clifty Drive to Mauser), Crozer (State Road 7 to Cassidy Lane/stop sign), Third Street (Craigmont to Broadway), and Broadway (Third Street to Main Street, north and south lanes). He also said the city intends to advance another phase of Main Street from Hanover Hill to McIntyre.
"The application was right at a million dollars worth of projected neighborhood road improvements," Hale said. He told the board the list was designed to cover a broad swath of local roads and that the submission will be the city's first test of how the state allocates awards under recent road funding changes.
Board members asked about Green Road; Hale said the city priced Green Road but the total cost would have pushed the application well above the $1 million budget because additional infrastructure work, including drainage and shoulder repairs, was required. "It took us way over a million dollar [budget]," he said, and the city left Green Road out of the 2026 application while noting it remains a candidate for future cycles once funds are available and preliminary water/drainage fixes are completed.
Residents raised safety concerns about Green Road's speed and deteriorated surface during public comment; staff acknowledged heavy traffic and previous temporary repairs and said the city will continue to pursue funding and engineering work for the corridor.
