The Board of Public Works and Safety approved street and parking lot closures for the City of Madison Christmas parade and festival scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025.
Parks Director Brett Ricketts presented contracts for parade attractions and festival logistics. Ricketts said the city secured Silly Safaris to provide reindeer for two hours (listed in the packet as $18.50) and Dynamic Displays to provide nine large balloons for the parade at a total cost of $10,000; Dynamic Displays also requires a donated hotel room for its crew, which the city said was secured.
The board approved Resolution No. 2025‑52b to close Main Street (Jefferson to Mill), Mill Street (Main to Second), Jefferson (Main to Second), Second Street (Walnut to Jefferson) and the south corner parking lot of Jefferson and Second at the times specified in the resolution. The board also approved Resolution No. 2025‑53b to close Broadway between Main and the south side of Presbyterian Avenue immediately following the parade for the Christmas festival.
Ricketts said festival programming will include food trucks, bouncy houses, an alpine slide and other family activities, and that most parade and festival expenses are being covered by sponsorships the Parks Department has raised.
The board approved contracts and both resolutions by voice vote.
