Highway staff updated the Dubois County commissioners Nov. 3 on operations including temporary site arrangements, staffing and procurement.
Staff said the owner of a current dumpster/transfer site had offered continued access through March at $150 per month while the county continues to seek a permanent purchase. "If we wanna stay on there until March... he would like to charge $150 a month for January, February, and March," the highway superintendent said; the board signaled informal consensus to accept the short‑term arrangement while searching for a half‑ to one‑acre purchase to avoid future displacement.
A part‑time site attendant was hired and begins training soon, and annual material bids will open Nov. 17. Sanitation sites will be closed Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) and Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving). Staff reported only two sticker vendors returned quotes; the low bidder, Trash Stickers Inc., submitted a quote of $7,950 including delivery, the same price as the previous year, and the county ordered those stickers.
Staff requested increasing the combined cash-and-sticker on‑hand limit for sites (currently $1,500 small/$2,500 large) to a higher limit after the first of the year to reduce trips for resupply; commissioners asked staff to bring security procedures back for discussion but gave informal approval to raise limits when prices change.
Ending: Board approved staff to proceed with short‑term dumpster site lease option, hired site attendant, ordered sanitation stickers at the quoted price and asked staff to return with security details for increased cash on hand.
