At its Nov. 3 meeting, the Town of Sellersburg Redevelopment Commission authorized staff to begin drafting a request for proposals for the disposition of the former Sellersburg School property, subject to a second appraisal and subsequent commission approval of the final RFP.
Charlie (staff member) told the commission that the request came at the direction of Jake Elder, the town council attorney, who asked the commission to proceed with drafting the document so it could undergo circulation and legal review. Charlie said the Wheatley Group would prepare a first draft and circulate it for comments and edits.
Context: the commission does not currently own the former school property; past discussions have considered the commission’s role in any disposition. Charlie said appraisals are required for the RFP document and that one appraisal — for 206 North New Albany Street (the former elementary school building) — has been completed, with a second appraisal still pending. Staff said they expect to have a draft RFP ready for review before the next meeting and ideally largely final before the winter holidays.
Next steps and outcome: staff will prepare the draft RFP, obtain the second appraisal to arrive at an average of two appraisals for the offering document, circulate the draft for commission review, and return for formal approval before any release. No formal vote was taken to release the RFP at the Nov. 3 meeting.
