District construction staff and the project manager told the facilities committee on Nov. 3 that work on the Conewago Township Elementary classroom‑wing addition is progressing and that the project will appear in the district’s December budget/change‑order report.
“Exterior walls are being erected and the underground plumbing pipe installation has started,” a project representative said, describing coordinated work between trades and school staff. The representative praised communication among the principal, dean of students, construction manager and contractors and said that, to date, there has been good coordination to avoid surprises.
The report listed six pending change orders expected to appear in December: unsuitable‑soil and rock overexcavation for June, an inlet‑16 modification (noted as $3,232), and other pending items that will be reconciled for the December report. The presenter identified value‑engineering credits that reduce cost, including a playground‑equipment credit and a selection of a veneer brick rather than full brick to save money.
Photos shown to the committee reflect visible progress at the site, including rising brickwork on the exterior. The presenter acknowledged construction noise at times and said teachers have been adapting management strategies to accommodate it.
No formal action was taken at the meeting. The presenter said pending change orders will be included in the December packet and that the project is proceeding in coordination with district leadership.
