The Wyoming City Council on Nov. 3 authorized the city manager and city clerk to execute an agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation to receive $400,000 in state funding for construction of dual left-turn lanes at Byron Center and 56th Street. Staff estimated the total project cost at roughly $550,000, leaving an expected local share of about $150,000.
City staff said the engineering and easement agreements for the project had already been approved and that the MDOT agreement is needed to accept the $400,000 in funding. Council member Posler moved the measure; Postma (recorded as support) seconded, and the council approved the contract by roll-call vote.
Staff and some council members said the dual left-turn lanes are expected to improve flow at the intersection; no additional schedule or construction timeline was provided at the meeting. Council did not approve any immediate capital expenditure beyond authorizing acceptance of the MDOT funding and execution of the agreement.
The project was discussed as part of routine consent/award items and passed by roll call.
