Kristine, the district finance staff member, reported that as of Oct. 31 year-to-date expenditures were approximately 19.8% and that real-estate revenues have kept the district stable despite a state funding impasse. She said the general fund cash balance stands at about $18 million but after processing November bills and payroll the balance will be closer to $12 million.
Kristine also said the December period includes three payrolls and typical operating expenses that could total about $6 million; if the state budget remains unsettled through January, the district may need to discuss short-term borrowing to cover cash-flow needs. On the Burke Hospital tax appeal, Kristine said the case was rescheduled and that the next court date was set for Friday, Nov. 7; staff did not provide further detail on potential outcomes.
Board members did not take immediate action but asked staff to monitor cash flow and report back as the state budget process evolves.
