The Deltona City Commission voted 4–3 to return the city’s Christmas parade route to Deltona Boulevard after several commissioners and members of the public raised concerns about parking, traffic flow, and impacts on businesses along Providence Boulevard.

Commissioner Novick said Deltona Boulevard offers sidewalks on both sides and ample parking near shopping centers, while Commissioners Veil Vasquez and others said Providence is more residential, has fewer parking options and previously generated complaints when tried in that location. Public commenters said Providence Boulevard lacks space for vendors, food trucks and the expected crowd and described prior problems when the parade was held there.

Staff said the parade route decision was operational and administrative but that Parks & Recreation recommended the Providence route for this year; staff also noted final vendor and sheriff-department logistics and contracts may limit immediate changes. Commissioner Caldwell moved to return the parade to Deltona Boulevard, seconded by Commissioner Avila Vasquez, and the motion passed 4–3. Commissioners asked staff to monitor this year’s event where planned and evaluate alternatives and a more centrally located future route.

What’s next: staff will coordinate with the sheriff’s office and vendors on logistics and review whether the site worked for this year; if needed, the commission can direct a change for next year.
