Danny Yates, director of public works, told commissioners that an EPD inspection and third-party testing found the underground piping and dispensers at the department's older fuel site are deteriorating and not holding pressure. Yates said the inspection did not identify active leaks but found dispenser components were allowing fuel to collect and leak internally, and he recommended replacing the underground piping and the older dispensers while the ground is open.

Yates said MECO, which services the county's newer fuel sites, provided a single quote to perform the work for $149,172. Commissioners asked about a prior manufacturer's defect noted in the inspection report; Yates agreed to ask the EPD inspector to return and inspect the repair work before it is covered and to perform required third-party pressure testing before backfill.

The board agreed to place the replacement work on the consent agenda for the upcoming business meeting.
