Members of Carmel-by-the-Sea's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) used the city vlog to announce multiple new volunteers, provide details about public outreach at an upcoming parade, and promote the Carmel Prepares community event on Saturday, Nov. 8.
CERT leaders named several recent additions to the team, including Carolyn Swanson, Ashley Wright, Leslie Fenton, Katie O'Connell and Molly Nelson, and said the team will participate in the parade that afternoon. The speakers praised cross-jurisdiction cooperation with Pacific Grove's CERT and said the Carmel team has attracted members from neighboring communities.
Carmel Prepares, the briefing said, will include winter-storm preparedness tips, a hands-only CPR and AED demonstration led by Aletha Parker (MPC program director), and a choking response demonstration. The event will include breakfast provided by Chief Trier and a raffle; the grand prize announced in the briefing is a three-day "get-home" kit by Cascade Year Ready valued at $359. Speakers said entrants must be present to win and that other raffle prizes will also be offered. The briefing emphasized the event's one-hour length and encouraged attendance from residents across Monterey County.
No formal action or council vote was taken during the announcements; the segment served as outreach and an invitation to community preparedness programming.
