Mayor Steven L. Reed told host Daryl Hall that in-person attendance at City Hall meetings is modest and that the city relies on multiple channels to gather public input. "People bring some suggestions. They email them. They'll share them on social media and say, are you thinking about this? Have you thought about that? They'll email the council members and email us," Reed said.
Reed estimated typical meeting attendance at "15 to 20 people, 20 to 25 people," and urged residents to submit ideas through the usual channels. He said the city receives a wide range of suggestions and that staff follow up when appropriate.
On communications, Reed described media training as a routine tool for public officials and said live video gives leaders a way to explain decisions in more depth than short broadcast clips allow. "There is media training," he said, adding that officials who take training learn to "communicate what you really want people to remember" and to avoid having remarks taken out of context.
Reed said he uses live social video to give fuller explanations when the public 'only sees the bold print' in news headlines and called for clear, direct communication when details matter. No formal changes to meeting procedures or public-comment rules were announced in the conversation.
