The Abington Board of School Directors on Oct. 28 approved a resolution urging the Pennsylvania General Assembly to pass a complete and responsible state budget immediately. Board members said the prolonged impasse — more than 100 days at the time of the meeting — has withheld state educational funding and threatened program staffing and essential services across Pennsylvania.

Board members framed the resolution as part of a statewide effort led by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) and said sending a bipartisan message to Harrisburg was necessary to protect students and district operations. "This budget impasse must end," one board member said during discussion, noting districts have borrowed to operate and that borrowing carries interest costs that may not be reimbursed when a budget finally passes.

Speakers at the meeting described the effect as particularly harmful to students and districts that rely on state and federal subsidies. The board discussed limited information about competing budget stopgap proposals at the state level but emphasized the urgency of funding for students and staff. The board voted by roll call to approve the resolution.

The district emphasized that the resolution was developed in coordination with PSBA and that producing the statement incurred no direct cost beyond PSBA membership. Several board members stressed this action aimed to join other districts' voices in calling for prompt legislative action to restore predictable education funding across the Commonwealth.
