A public commenter addressed the committee near the end of the Oct. 30 meeting to urge Council Rock to adopt formal policies governing the use of artificial intelligence tools in instruction and administration.

The commenter said any district-sponsored research or classroom work that collects or uses student data should include parent notification and consent procedures consistent with institutional review norms. The commenter pointed district staff to model AI policies and resources, including an East Penn AI policy and higher-education guidance from institutions such as Penn and MIT, and recommended educator training programs and statewide resources that are being developed.

The speaker said commercial AI platforms and some instructional tools can collect student-generated content and that school districts should ensure privacy protections and clarity about how student work may be used for training or research. District officials thanked the speaker and invited further conversation after the meeting.

No board action was taken during the public comment period; administrators said they would follow up with the commenter and consider available policy models and training resources.
