Sheriff Mark Danos urged Cochise County residents to take basic precautions for Halloween, emphasizing vehicle visibility and parental supervision for trick-or-treaters.
"Check to make sure all your lights are on," Danos said, describing a recent traffic stop where a rental car s front driving lights were on but taillights were not. He advised drivers unfamiliar with newer vehicles to verify that headlights, driving lights and taillights are fully activated before driving at night.
Danos also offered guidance to families: "If the light's not on the home, don't knock on the door," he said, adding that children should be taught not to accept candy from strangers off the porch and to seek an adult if someone is persistent.
During the broadcast Danos described a recent appearance at Palomino School for Red Ribbon Week, where students dressed in costumes and participated in activities. He noted partnerships with local schools and youth groups, including Tombstone High School ROTC and other programs the sheriff s office supports.
The sheriff announced the graduation of 14 detention officers and read their names on air, thanking families and noting Judge Karwachka provided the keynote address. Danos highlighted one graduate who had been involved with county-sponsored youth racing programs and who grew into a detention officer role.
Danos closed the segment by wishing listeners a safe Halloween and saying he would be on patrol that night to help protect children.
