Board policy KE, governing public concerns and complaints, was read aloud during the citizens' participation portion of the Sept. 11 meeting. The board reiterated limits on public comment and announced an administrative change to how online public comments will be accepted until a formal policy revision in October.
"The citizens' participation item on the board agenda is an opportunity for members of the community to speak publicly... Comments are limited to 3 minutes per person," the board secretary read, citing Board policy KE. The same speaker added: "I will add this evening that we will be modifying our policy going forward, sometime in October to address the changes that were recently enacted with legislation. However, we are going to, till we get to that point, there will be a Google Doc form that's dropped through the comment section of the online platform. Anyone that does wish to participate in public comment online needs to spell that form out as well."
No members of the public signed up to speak in person that evening; the presiding officer closed the public-comment period for the meeting and said the board would reopen public participation at the start of the next board meeting. The board did not take formal action on the policy change at this meeting; the announcement is administrative and contingent on a planned October policy update.
