Ashish Solanki of the Maryland Aviation Administration's Office of Regional Aviation Assistance told county and municipal officials that regional airports support businesses and first-response services and said MAA is providing roughly $3,000,000 in statewide airport infrastructure grants this year.

For Carroll County Regional Airport, Solanki said the MAA will provide 'nearly $226,000' toward an automated weather observation system replacement and land acquisition that supports a runway-extension project.

'These smaller airports are an economic driver for our communities,' Solanki said, noting statewide job and economic activity figures for the administration's regional airports.

MDOT staff invited local airport stakeholders to follow up with MAA on project scope, design and timing. Solanki noted the figure excludes BWI Thurgood Marshall and that supporting airport infrastructure typically ties to runway safety and future development planning.
