The police chief briefed the Board of Selectmen on line-item increases needed to support expansion toward a fully staffed department, including training, investigator supplies, uniform outfitting and equipment maintenance.
The chief said investigator supplies rose because the department now has a detective and requires additional equipment; uniform outfitting for a new officer was estimated at about $5,000. Computer maintenance and radio lines were also flagged as rising costs because of new county dispatch software and older town hardware under lease. Special-duty work (details paid by outside entities) was reported as fully reimbursed to the town: "every single dollar that's spent on special duty is reimbursed back to the town," the chief said.
Separately, staff proposed paving the police station parking lot and preparing an impound lot. The board discussed an $80,000 estimate to repave the station area and then install screening and fencing for an impound lot. The presenter said pavement condition caused plow and vehicle wear and suggested completing paving before installing an impound fence to avoid rework.
Selectmen took the police requests under advisement and asked for final cost estimates and sequencing details to bring back for consideration in the capital plan.
