FARMINGTON, Conn. — The Farmington Board of Education voted Oct. 27 to elect Jess Genetti as superintendent of schools for a three-year term beginning Jan. 5, 2026, and authorized the board chair to sign the related contract.
The action followed a closed executive session, which the board said was held under Connecticut statutes governing executive sessions. The chair cited Connecticut General Statutes noted in the meeting as permitting executive session discussion for superintendent appointments before the board returned to public session and took the vote.
Board members described the superintendent search as “comprehensive and inclusive,” praising CABE Search Services consultants Dr. Mary Broderick and Dr. Jack Reynolds and interim superintendent Kathy Greeter for their roles in the process. In public remarks before the vote, members said they had sought a candidate experienced in continuous improvement, collaborative leadership and relationship-building.
“Among an exceptional pool of candidates, Mr. Jess Genetti emerged as a thoughtful, conscientious and student-centered educator with a collaborative leadership style and a wonderful sense of humor,” a board member said during the meeting. The board moved to elect Genetti and the chair called for a second; after discussion the chair asked for a voice vote and announced, “Motion carries.”
Jess Genetti thanked the board and search team and said the vote was “the most exciting board vote that I’ve ever witnessed.” He said he was “deeply grateful” for the opportunity and praised Farmington’s commitment to academic achievement and to ensuring “every student is known, valued, and has the opportunity to grow.” Genetti referenced his 24 years in Avon schools, including roles as classroom teacher, principal and assistant superintendent.
The board specified the appointment is for a three-year term commencing Jan. 5, 2026. The motion also authorized the board chair to execute the employment contract on the board’s behalf. No roll-call vote tally or individual vote recordings were read into the public record during the meeting; the chair announced the motion carried following a voice vote.
Board members and Genetti thanked Kathy Greeter, who retired in June and served as interim superintendent, and members of the CABE search team for their work. The meeting ended after brief closing remarks and a motion to adjourn.
