The Fresno City Council on Oct. 30 approved agreements that finalize ownership and lease transfers for Sequoia Brewery in the Tower District, clearing a key administrative hurdle for the business to reopen.
Council member Annalisa Perea, sponsor of the item, described the brewery as a Tower District institution and thanked the new ownership group for investing in the neighborhood. The new owners listed were Will Oliver, Scott Miller, Ian Wieland, Joe Doerr and Bill Avakian; during the meeting an owner said the Tower location planned to reopen Oct. 31 and that about 80% of the pre‑closure employees would be brought back.
The clerk also read owner names into the record to comply with local public‑interest and landlord/tenant requirements. Council approved the ownership and lease‑transfer items unanimously.
Background and operations: The property at 777 East Olive was identified in the clerk's announcements; council members asked logistical questions about hours and kitchen service. Owners said kitchen service would generally end shortly before last call but that hours could expand on busy weekends. The council recorded the approvals as consent/housekeeping items and urged the owners to coordinate with the neighborhood on operations.
Vote: Motion to ratify the agreements passed 7–0.
