The El Campo Independent School District Board of Trustees opened a public hearing Oct. 29 on the district's Schools First rating for 2025, which the board said is based on staff and student data reported for the 2023-24 school year and financial data for the fiscal year ending Aug. 31, 2024.

At the hearing a resident offered public comment congratulating "Mister Wells and his staff," and named multiple employees the commenter said contributed to the district's result, saying the district earned "a perfect score of a 100." The commenter listed staff including "Miss Joyce, Becky Pope, Savannah Jackel, Brandy Lehi, Therese Foss, Miss Garza, Sharon Curtis and Monica Chumshaw," and urged the board to recognize the behind-the-scenes work that produced the score.

The hearing record states the Schools First rating is an analysis of staff and student data plus budgetary and actual financial data for the specified reporting periods. Board members invited public interaction at the hearing but recorded no formal action on the rating at the meeting; the public hearing served as the opportunity for comment on the district's rating report.

No further action was recorded from the hearing portion of the meeting. The special meeting portion was adjourned and the board proceeded to its regular agenda later that evening.
