The Elkhart City Fire Mayor Commission on Oct. 13 elected Commissioner Amber Bressler as commission president and approved multiple personnel actions including a disciplinary notice, the certification of a medic driver candidate and a hiring list of 71 applicants.
Commissioners voted to elect Amber Bressler as president after a motion to nominate her was moved and seconded; commissioners responded "aye" and the motion carried. The action installs Bressler as the commission president for 2025.
Fire Chief Dale notified the commission of disciplinary action taken against Lieutenant Pete Svetanoff. The commission moved to accept the disciplinary notification; the motion was seconded and carried.
The commission approved medic driver test results and certified Tia Garnett as the successful candidate for the medic driver certification when the position becomes available. Commissioners also voted to amend the meeting agenda to include additional test results and then approved a hiring list compiled from the recent hiring process. The hiring list as presented showed 71 successful candidates following CPAT screening, interviews and written-score weighting.
During the hiring-list vote, a commissioner disclosed that candidate No. 62, Paris Graves, is a client of theirs and noted a conflict of interest; the commissioner said they would nonetheless vote in favor. The disclosure was entered into the record.
There were no substantive items reported by IAFF Local 338. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that carried.
