The Oakland County Board of Commissioners issued proclamations Oct. 30 recognizing two long‑serving local figures.
Jay David Vanderveen was honored for more than two decades on the Oakland County Parks Commission, including 13 years as vice chair, and 55 years of service to Oakland County in county employment. Commissioners said his leadership was instrumental to park system improvements and millage successes that expanded access and eliminated resident park entry fees. A dedication at Independence Oaks — "Vanderveen Point" — was announced for a naming ceremony scheduled the following Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
The board also recognized Rosie Lee Myers for 52 years of service as a cafeteria manager in the Pontiac school district. Commissioner Angela Powell noted Myers’ adherence to the district wellness policy and decades of service including summer feeding programs; Myers accepted the proclamation and offered brief remarks.
These presentations were ceremonial and no formal board actions were required.
