The Weston County School Board on the evening recognized two major private gifts to support repairs to the district pool, board members said. "Pat and Barb Crowe donated $10,000. And earlier this week from a private donor, we received another $80,000 gift," a board member said during the recognitions period.
The donations were cited by multiple board members and by the Eastern Weston County Recreation Board later in the evening. District and recreation officials said the funds will be used to repair and reopen the pool after a period of closure for maintenance.
District reports to the board said repair crews have arrived and work has begun. "The welder showed up Monday night," a district representative said, adding that liner crews and other equipment had arrived and been unloaded. Staff said the schedule for contractors will be roughly 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week while the work proceeds.
Board members and rec board officials publicly thanked the Crowes and the anonymous donor for the contributions. Rec board members also recognized lifeguards who worked extra hours on swim lessons while the pool was shut down.
District staff did not provide a detailed line-item budget for the repairs during the meeting and did not specify whether the $90,000 covers all anticipated costs. A board member said additional updates would be provided as the work progresses.
