David Coffey presented a $10,000 cash award to Monica Veil in recognition of North Clinton Elementary's recent literacy gains and student achievement.
"You have improved. You've done some wonderful stuff," Coffey said as he described the school's progress in K-3 literacy and praised staff leadership. He invited the entire North Clinton staff to join him for a group photo following the presentation.
School staff highlighted published assessment results during the director's report. Abby Tidwell, who presented school data to the board, said North Clinton's 2025 TCAP English language arts proficiency was 62.5%, with third grade at 60%, fourth grade at 68% and fifth grade near 59%. Math proficiency overall was 50%; the schoolwide combined success rate (literacy and math) was reported at 55%, above the district's previously set annual measurable objective of 44%.
Tidwell also reported I-Ready benchmark results showing a median growth of 187% toward a year of expected growth and said 58% of students were on or above grade level on that measure. She noted improvements in stretch growth and praised teachers and coaches for focusing on both proficiency and growth.
Board members and the superintendent congratulated staff for the collective effort. The board allowed the visiting North Clinton staff to be excused early to attend a school event.
