When asked about a reported North Korean cruise missile launch, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi told reporters the agency continues to observe expansion of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's nuclear programme. "We have been reporting about the increased enrichment capabilities, reprocessing capabilities, new facilities being constructed not only at the traditional Yongbyon compound ... but in other places," Grossi said.

Grossi noted the IAEA's remit is safeguards on nuclear material and facilities, not missiles, but said this nuclear activity runs "counter to several United Nations Security Council resolutions." He added that the programme "goes unabated" and that the absence of IAEA monitoring in North Korea increases safety concerns for neighbouring states.
