About 250 city employees took part in a Durango employee wellness walk, organizers said, marking the fourth year for the event and a chance for staff to exercise and socialize.

Organizers said the walk was held in partnership with the animal care and control department and featured adoptable dogs, including one identified as Luna. Staff members volunteered to walk dogs from animal care and control so the animals could get exercise and exposure to potential adopters.

A participant said the walks support employee health and wellness and also count toward a workplace wellness incentive. After completing the walk, employees receive credit for a “one of your choice” activity that contributes to earning a $30-per-paycheck incentive.

Speakers described the walk as both a health activity and an opportunity to help animals awaiting adoption. One speaker noted a dog named Luna had been excited earlier in the event but had relaxed and was behaving well during the walk.
