Virginia City’s mayor issued a formal proclamation at the Oct. 28 council meeting honoring the Rock Ridge girls tennis team for winning the 2025 Class 2A state championship.

The proclamation recognized players by name and commended coaches and community volunteers for their roles. “It is an honor and a privilege for us to have you here tonight,” the mayor said when presenting the document and a banner to the team.

Coach Courtney Rosati thanked the council for the recognition and singled out the indoor courts as a competitive advantage: “Having that during our season gives us a huge advantage over other area teams and allows us to be a program year round,” she said. Player Emmy Peterson told the council the team felt deep community support at the state tournament: “Every time I looked out into the audience, I saw a new face, a new person that decided to drive all the way down to watch us play,” she said.

Councilors and residents applauded the athletes and coaches; the mayor said the proclamation and banner would be added to City Hall’s displays. The event was presented as a ceremonial item before the council’s regular business.
