A resident raised concerns at public comment about a proposed cannabis dispensary at 3430 Wendell Boulevard and asked the town to prevent a cannabis‑related business from opening across from Wendell Elementary School.

"There seems to be a cannabis dispensary that's headed towards the area. . . I have two kids that actually go to Wendell Elementary School, which is right across the street," Anthony Benjamin told the board. Benjamin said the store’s signage and products (he named CBD and edibles) could be attractive to children and said he believed state law requires licensed cannabis businesses to be at least 1,000 feet from schools.

Benjamin said a vape shop already operates on Wendell Boulevard and expressed concern that businesses selling youth‑oriented products could influence children. He asked the board to prevent a dispensary from opening directly across the street from the elementary school.

In later commissioner remarks, board members echoed concern about proximity of certain businesses to schools and said staff had received an email and would verify whether any business was operating illegally under town and state rules. Commissioner Lutz specifically noted the difficulty of intervening after permits are issued but said the board should evaluate proximity rules going forward.

No formal action or ordinance change was taken during the meeting; the matter was recorded in public comment and commissioners requested staff follow up.
