La Verne city officials discussed second readings of two zoning measures at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen workshop on Oct. 2: a rezoning request for a 13.63-acre parcel at the end of Wheeler Street, and a motion to repeal the existing zoning map and amend Title 14 of the La Verne Municipal Code.
The Wheeler Street property (tax map 18 K, group A partial 6) is proposed to change from I-1 (light industrial) to I-2 (heavy industrial) zoning, following a favorable Planning Commission recommendation dated July 29, 2025 and a public hearing on Sept. 2, 2025. The city also presented Ordinance 2025-27, described as a repeal of the current zoning map and an update to reflect the new zoning code structure.
City staff told the board that the draft citywide map contains two corrections: one on Old Nashville Highway by Cheney that had been incorrectly reclassified to a higher-density designation and has been reverted to R-1, and a parcel that had been listed as R-3 but had previously been rezoned to commercial; that parcel has been corrected. Staff noted these changes were missed during an earlier review and were being fixed before final adoption.
City staff opened the floor for questions and described the Planning Commission’s prior review and recommendation process. No formal vote was recorded during the workshop; the items were presented as second readings and a public hearing date for the map update was announced for Oct. 9, 2025 at 4:45 p.m.
If adopted on final reading, the ordinances would update the official zoning map and bring municipal code text into alignment with the new zoning districts. The board did not take final action at the workshop; further comment and the formal vote will occur at subsequent meetings.
The discussion occurred during the old-business portion of the Oct. 2 workshop and built on Planning Commission action earlier in 2025.
