During the board’s open forum, resident Timothy Myers raised concerns about a district mailing related to an upcoming ballot question and about district budget choices.
Myers said he believed district communications were misleading and asked how many years local taxpayers would pay taxes for a new building. “How many years are local taxpayers tax for those bonds for a new building?” Myers asked. He added that he received a mailing he believed had been drafted by district employees and approved by the board and said, “At any time, did any of you say or even think that this is deceiving the voters? A 91% increase in per pupil revenue is outrageous.”
Myers also questioned a shift he described in district accounting: “I was able to figure out you moved expiring building bond money to operating money so you could get question 1 approved and make the voters think this is free money,” he said. Board leadership reminded Myers that matters not on the agenda cannot be acted on at open forum and offered to follow up by email with answers to his questions.
Board response and follow-up
The board chair thanked Myers for his comments, noted the three-minute open-forum time limit and invited Myers to email questions so staff could provide answers. The chair and staff did not take formal action on Myers’ allegations during the meeting.
Ending
Board members and staff offered to follow up outside the meeting and to provide information by email in response to Myers’ questions.
