The Evansville City Board of Parks Commission on Oct. 1 approved multiple contracts funded by the 2024 parks bond and opened bids for the Fourth and Main park project.
The board voted to approve and execute an agreement with Debra Kimpel for replacement of remaining rooftop HVAC units at Swander Ice Arena, using 2024 parks bond funds. Andrea Lord, assistant facility manager at Swander, described the work and asked the board to authorize the agreement.
The board also approved a contract with JD Tree Service for removal of hazardous trees at Garvin Park. Staff said the quotes were opened Sept. 3 and the selected amount is $72,150.
Commissioners approved a bid award to Midwest Contracting and Maintenance Inc. for a two-door restroom next to the playground at Westwood Park. Staff said this was a formally bid project opened Sept. 3 as part of the 2024 bond; the staff-presented figure for that contract was $419,740 and a completion target was discussed for spring (staff said an April 1 completion date was requested; construction scheduling discussion indicated a March/April timeline).
During the meeting staff opened sealed bids for the Fourth and Main project. The board publicly read base bids and multiple alternates from several contractors, including Park Construction Company, Rivertown Construction, Midwest Contracting and Maintenance, Empire Contractors, and Dye Brothers Lumber and Construction. Staff recommended taking the bids under advisement for review; the board agreed and took the bids under advisement.
All of the consent and contract motions were moved and seconded on the record; the board chair called the votes and each motion carried. Individual movers and seconders were not named on the meeting transcript.
