Mr. Pollock, representing the Bourbon County Conservation District, spoke to the commission during the budget meeting and asked commissioners to continue supporting the district; he said he was not requesting additional county funds at this time.
Pollock described the conservation district as a local subdivision that directs state cost-share dollars to county needs such as brush control and water-filtration projects. He said Bourbon County performs well at returning state cost-share funds to local landowners and noted the district’s long local history: “For 78 years, the conservation district is 80 years old this year,” he said, and described the district’s role in tailoring state monies to local priorities.
Pollock told commissioners the district traditionally receives some county funding; during the meeting a staff figure of $25,000 was mentioned for the district’s budget line. He said the district is not asking for more at this meeting but requested better communication and said supervisors would like to work more closely with the commission.
Commissioners thanked Pollock for the presentation and said they looked forward to follow-up conversations to better understand district work and state cost-share flows.
