Lubbock County Commissioners Court on Sept. 29 authorized the county judge to sign a Travelers Insurance crime policy and an excess workers’ compensation policy for the period 10/01/2025 through 10/01/2026, and approved an outside-accounts-payable (AP) payment to broker USI for those premiums.

County Auditor Miss Williams told the court that the renewal proposals arrived too close to the payment deadline for the county’s AP routing to be completed before the next Commissioners Court. She said the county had not yet received an invoice and that the carrier typically does not issue a bill until the county judge signs the proposal. Miss Williams asked the court’s permission to pay USI outside the AP process to meet the vendor’s deadline. The motion to authorize the judge to sign the policies was made by Commissioner Rackler and seconded by Commissioner Dolby. A separate motion to permit payment to USI outside the AP process also passed by voice vote.

Why it matters: Approving coverage renewals maintains the county’s crime and excess-workers’-compensation insurance without a lapse. Commissioners asked about AP procedures and invoice timing; Miss Williams explained the timing constraint and stated the county would process paperwork once the judge signs.

What was decided: The court authorized the county judge to sign both insurance renewals for the 10/01/2025–10/01/2026 policy year and approved payment to broker USI outside the AP process to ensure premiums are paid on time.
