Speakers at the Downtown Indy Alliance State of Downtown event said ground has been broken on a new Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center in downtown Indianapolis, a project organizers described as a $78 million investment in women's sports and downtown amenities.
"We've broken ground this year on the $78,000,000 Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center right in the heart of downtown," said Lori, a board member of Downtown Indy and representative of Pacer Sports & Entertainment, during her remarks. She described the facility as "state of the art" and said it will provide training and recovery space for the WNBA's Indiana Fever.
Lori framed the center as part of a broader downtown strategy to strengthen sports, culture and hospitality and cited the facility as evidence of growing investment in women's sports in Indianapolis. The speaker also linked on‑court success and downtown celebrations to increased economic activity for nearby businesses and public spaces.
Organizers did not provide a public timeline for completion or public funding details during the presentation. The remarks emphasized the center's role in downtown placemaking and in reinforcing Indianapolis’s profile as a host for major sporting events and cultural gatherings.
