The Village Board approved a special-use permit allowing Kids Space Academy LLC to convert 505 North Ridgeland Avenue — a former dentist’s office — into a daycare facility serving approximately 94 children weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The decision followed a unanimous positive recommendation from the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Village planner Mike Bruce summarized the application: the project will include an addition on the west side of the structure, interior renovations to meet state and local daycare requirements, installation of fencing for an outdoor play area, restriping and a new curb cut to reconfigure site circulation, and designated on-site and curbside drop-off/pick-up zones. The applicant provided staffing and circulation plans, and the Zoning Board of Appeals held a public hearing on Sept. 11, receiving neighborhood support.
Trustees said the use meets the ordinance criteria and praised the additional child-care hours the facility would provide. After questions about traffic mitigation and parking, Clerk Waters called the roll; trustees voted yes on the special-use permit.
Staff noted additional building and life-safety permits will be required and that the applicant must meet all federal, state and local regulations for daycares prior to opening.
