The Allentown City Council announced that a public hearing on proposed revisions to the zoning and subdivision and land-development ordinances (referred to in the meeting as Bill 69 and Bill 70) will take place Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. The council said it intends to act on both bills at a following council meeting.
Council members introduced a series of budget and ordinance measures and appointments during the meeting. Those items included:
- Bill 75: Amendment to the 2025 grant budget to provide a local-share Pennsylvania DCED pass-through grant to support the Allentown Patriots (amount not specified in the meeting record).
- Bill 76: A supplemental appropriation of $2,000,000 from the Pennsylvania State Office of Budget described as an RCAP grant to support the da Vinci Center.
- Bill 77: Amendment to the 2025 equipment fund to add $27,900 for additional costs associated with a Greens pumper vehicle.
- Bill 78: Amendments to the Trexler Fund and Cedar Beach Improvements Fund to allocate $77,805 and $1,684.91 respectively to the Roosevelt Park capital budget for parks and recreation.
- Bill 79: A supplemental appropriation of $72,869 for the construction or improvement of a basketball court, described in the meeting as reimbursement from a partnership.
The consent agenda included multiple appointments to the Human Relations Commission; the meeting record lists nominations including Mr. Daigle, Greg Beavers, Travis Bonney, Chrissy Xaveria, Nikolia Hill and Khan Walker. The meeting minutes were approved as presented.
A council member also raised a previously approved $8,000 allocation intended for the Conference of Churches to purchase tents and tarps for eviction-related needs; members discussed whether funds should be disbursed directly to the nonprofit or retained in a city account to purchase supplies on the nonprofit’s behalf. Staff said the controller was not present and that further administrative steps would be handled after the meeting.
Council referred the introduced bills to the appropriate committees and scheduled committee meetings for Oct. 15 for several standing committees that will consider the items further.
