Senior Vice President Scott Smith of Plante Moran presented the quarterly update on the district's 2020 bond at the Sept. 30 board meeting, reviewing completed summer projects, updated financials and the status of remaining work.
Smith said the overall bond portfolio is tracking at just over $109,000,000, with roughly $15,000,000 uncommitted and $92,000,000 spent to date. Since the prior April update, spent amounts increased by about $6,000,000 largely for summer construction, technology and bus purchases. He said earned interest added roughly $400,000 back to the bond fund.
The presentation summarized recent completed work: athletic improvements (scoreboards and LED field lighting at middle and high schools), transportation facility upgrades (expanded service bay for longer buses), parking and drainage improvements at multiple sites, a new basketball court at East, and walking path work at Visions Elementary. Smith said the LED athletic lighting has reduced spillover and improved field usage in early evenings.
Board members raised a resident complaint recorded earlier in public comment about school parking‑lot lights shining into a neighboring house; trustee comments asked facilities and maintenance staff to investigate.
Looking ahead, Smith said the multipurpose room addition at Farmington High School is through design development and under cost review; awards are expected late this year or early next, with construction potentially beginning in spring and opening in early 2027 if schedules hold. Smith thanked McCarthy & Smith, Wakeley Associates and district staff for summer work and said most summer projects are in the close‑out phase.
Trustees thanked the project team and emphasized community benefits such as broader field and facility use. The board asked staff to follow up on the resident's lighting complaint and to return with any recommended mitigation options.
