Don Keneally, a resident who lives across from Farmington High School student parking, addressed the board during public comment on Sept. 30 to request help with parking‑lot lights that he said shine directly into his home.
Keneally said the lights are aimed nearly horizontally to illuminate the lot and that they activate roughly 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., creating nighttime glare into his living and dining rooms. He said district facilities staff had not resolved the issue despite repeated contacts since last December, and he urged trustees to observe the lights on their drive home and investigate mitigation options. He requested that the district not simply turn off lights when students are present but instead find an engineering solution to reduce spillover.
Later in the meeting, Scott Smith (Plante Moran) and trustees acknowledged the complaint when discussing athletic lighting upgrades under the 2020 bond. A trustee asked facilities staff to look into the lighting configuration and potential options to reduce glare, particularly in winter when snow increases reflectivity.
The transcript does not record a staff report or a formal motion; trustees asked for follow up from facilities/maintenance and a report back to the board.
