The Missisquoi Valley School District #89 board agreed to hold a special meeting on Oct. 2 to discuss redistricting and to consider answers to a survey request from the Vermont School Boards Association (VSBA).
Julie Regenbaugh, the superintendent, briefed the board on the redistricting task force’s process. She said the task force has been testing map scenarios and will expand public engagement opportunities; she also reported that the VSBA had circulated a survey to school board chairs with questions about structure, strengths and public input.
Board members discussed timing and agreed that the VSBA’s October 6 deadline for summarized chair feedback made it difficult to fully prepare for a regularly scheduled Oct. 14 board meeting. The board reached consensus at the meeting to hold a special session on Oct. 2 (venue to be confirmed) to receive an administrative presentation on SD/SU differences, review the VSBA questions and, if the board chooses, draft responses or a formal submission.
On board governance, the board voted to ask the Vermont School Boards Association to assist with the superintendent's annual evaluation process. The motion to engage VSBA assistance was approved unanimously, recorded in the meeting as 7–0.
During the meeting the board also approved procedural steps allowing an executive‑session discussion of a teacher leave request and then entered executive session for personnel matters. The board discussed options for public input and next steps for the redistricting conversation; administrators said minutes and meeting materials from the task force will be posted to the board drive and public documents.
Ending: The board asked administration to place a focused redistricting presentation on the Oct. 2 special meeting agenda and to prepare materials that would enable line‑by‑line consideration of the VSBA questionnaire.
