The Maryville Metropolitan Police Commission on an unspecified date approved amendments to four department policies governing firearms and accepted the police chief's report for August 2025.
The police chief reported: "For the month of August 2025, we had 2,490 calls for service. That resulted in the amount of 4,461 officer responses. We had a total of 107 adult arrests and 1 juvenile arrest. We had a total of 404 traffic stops, resulting in 336 citations. Approximately 128 accident reports, and that would include state reports and police service reports. We had 21 domestic batteries. And approximately 40 thefts." The commission voted to accept that report by motion and voice vote.
Why it matters: the changes alter department guidance on firearm proficiency, on-duty and off-duty firearm rules and the shooting review board’s reporting format. Commissioners said the amendments were primarily language cleanups and would not change the overall substance of the orders.
Details: Under new business the commission considered four items described in the meeting as General Orders 15.1 (Firearm Proficiency), 15.2 (Firearms), 15.3 (Off-duty Firearms) and 15.4 (Shooting Review Board). Commissioners said the amendments ‘‘clean up’’ wording and expand the shooting review board report to allow a longer summary rather than only a few lines. Each amendment was moved, seconded and approved; several votes were taken by roll call.
