The Ypsilanti Election Commission approved appointments for election inspectors and precinct chairpersons and set pay rates for the Nov. 4, 2025, special election at a meeting that began at 10 a.m. and adjourned at about 10:08 a.m.
The commission adopted a resolution accepting the clerk’s list of appointed poll workers, saying the workers will serve “at the assigned polling locations throughout the city, in the Absentee Counting Board, and as the Receiving Board during the 11/04/2025 special election.” The resolution, read aloud by the presiding officer, set pay at "$19 an hour for inspectors and $20 an hour for chairs." The commission directed the city clerk to provide a copy of the election inspectors list to the County Clerk’s Office and to county party contacts as listed.
The action followed brief procedural discussion about conflicts and party balance. The presiding officer noted the commission would ordinarily check lists for conflicts and for equal party representation but said, “So, technically, we aren't required to have equal party representation even though we still have done our best to do that.” The commission then voted to approve the appointments.
The meeting included three additional procedural actions. The commission excused Assessor Courtney Borden, who was absent due to a family emergency. Members also approved the meeting agenda with an amendment clarifying the public-comment procedure and approved minutes from the Oct. 9, 2024 meeting; the presiding officer noted the minutes had been prepared two days earlier and that a deputy had not completed them.
