The Leander City Council on Oct. 2 unanimously approved a zoning change (Z‑25‑0176) to allow a Peak Performance Training Center at the southeast corner of 183A and Woodview Drive.

The change rezones three parcels totaling about 12.595 acres from interim SFR‑1B and SFS‑2B single‑family categories to GC2C (general commercial, conditional). Michael Griffin, executive director of development services, told the council the planning and zoning commission recommended approval on Aug. 28 and staff supported the request.

Applicant Gary Shill, who with his wife Paula owns Peak Performance Training Center, told the council the new facility would be about 23,000 square feet — roughly triple the capacity of their current 9,000‑square‑foot location— and would serve local schools with after‑school programming, summer camps and life skills instruction. “Our instructors go through a thousand‑hour certification process,” Shill said, describing the center’s training and continuing‑education routines.

Council members who spoke during discussion cited the applicant’s school partnerships and community programming as reasons to support the rezoning. A motion to approve passed unanimously.

The council’s approval clears the zoning step; the applicant will still need to complete permitting and development review before construction and occupancy.

Minutes from the meeting show no public speakers opposed to this request during the hearing. The council did not attach additional conditions to the zoning in its approval.
