Katie Bradshaw, who identified herself as an alumnus of Webb High School, asked the Russell County Public Schools Board for guidance and “the board’s blessing” to establish Turning Point USA student chapters at local schools.
“Turning Point USA’s mission is to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of free markets and limited government,” Bradshaw said, adding that the organizers are “focused entirely on building a solid foundation” and are not conducting fundraising or accepting donations at this time. She asked that the district share any additional requirements students must complete to form new clubs.
Board members responded favorably in the meeting. One member said, “I 100% support it,” and another encouraged Bradshaw to coordinate with district staff to complete the clubs’ paperwork. Bradshaw said the national organization had provided initial materials and that she had correspondence from the county Republican committee in support.
Why it matters: Student clubs that operate within district policy shape extracurricular offerings and civic engagement on campus. Bradshaw asked the board for procedural guidance rather than immediate approval; the board did not vote on the request during the meeting.
Ending: Board members asked Bradshaw to work with school administrators and a district contact to complete chartering steps and provide contact information for follow-up.
