Hollidaysburg Police Chief Storm reported 406 calls for service in September and asked council to place a proposed K-9 initiative on the next meeting's agenda.
Chief Storm listed September activity including 15 assaults, nine harassment calls, four criminal mischief calls, three disturbances, one domestic violence incident, one DUI, two drug calls, 11 motor vehicle crashes, 12 warrants served and 102 vehicle stops. He said the department handled 26 calls involving the Blair County prison and noted one weapons call and one PFA violation.
The chief asked that the K-9 initiative be added to next month's council agenda and said he included a budget request for a drug-detection canine (not an attack dog). He said he intended to work with local business leaders on fundraising and added the unit would be focused on drug enforcement and tracking rather than an apprehension dog.
Ending: Council agreed to add the item to next month's agenda for discussion and potential budget consideration.
